A publicity campaign encouraging shoppers to support the uniqueness and diversity of some 250 small traders was launched today. WV One, the city centre management company, has been working with city centre businesses on a publicity campaign for the 2014 Independents Day on 4July. Now in its fourth year, the day it is part of a national drive to celebrate the value of individual businesses across the UK run by People 1st and is part of a wider Independents Month in July. Over 80 businesses are taking part in the city centre promotion and the public can get involved too with the opportunity to win one of two £50 vouchers to spend in participating businesses.
To mark Independents Day this year, WV One will be launching a new website with full listings of all city centre all city centre independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants www.wolverhamptonindependents.co.uk.
The event takes place between 12 noon and 1pm in Queen Square along with Dickie Dodd and Signal 107 roadshow. Those registering on the new web site stand a chance of winning a £50 voucher. Marianne Carter, marketing officer at WV One, who has been co-ordinating the campaign said: “The day is nationally recognised as a way to jog shoppers’ memories of how vitally important these businesses are to the local community. “We remind people that for every £1 spent shopping locally around 50-70p of that money circulates back into the local economy. For the same £1 spent out of town or online only 5p trickles back into the local community.” The public and businesses can get involved via social media on #IndieDay, @IndieDayUK, facebook.com/independents day or via WV One facebook and twitter accounts.
